~Pendle Hill~
10th April 2021
Molly on top of Pendle Hill
....what a drag the last few months have been. Anyway, let's not dwell on the past. Today, Peter R., Molly n' me have decided to walk up Pendle Hill from Newchurch-in-Pendle. It's a beautiful day and, just as last April, the weather helps to make up for other opportunities lost as a result of the travel restrictions brought about by the Covid19 pandemic.
Well Head Road
The car was left in the lay-by close to the primary school and we'll head along Well Head Road for a short distance. Only a couple of cars passed us on this short stretch of less than one mile. We are looking for the footpath which will take us up and over to Upper Ogden Reservoir. The footpath can be found at ///shun.thus.deserved ...this is the what3words unique referance for the point at which the footpath heads up the fellside. I've always found grid referances a bit too scientific for the masses - what3words is a free App for modern mobile phones and you can use your location to tell anyone where you are.
to Driver Height
The farmer's vehicle tracks encourage walkers to zig-zag on the way up the hill to Driver Height.
We gain a view of Pendle Hill, but rather than head straight up, we will walk up Ogden Clough as seen, right.
Upper Ogden Reservoir
Being stuck in East Lancashire for weeks on end has taught many of us to better understand what a fine part of the country we live in. This is Pendle ascent No.17 for 2021. We find a way around and past the reservoir and make our way into Ogden Clough.
Ogden Clough
View Westwards
The stone flags lead from Ogden Clough to the summit. They pre-date all the recent efforts to "improve" Pendle Hill and in some respects are better than the current alternative solutions to footpath erosion.
Molly on top of Pendle Hill
It's a funny old world nowadays. I took some more photos of stuff on my mobile phone and they are not easy to....blimey, I've done it...
Peter on top of Pendle
It's been away to somewhere remote and back again, then downloaded and resized. Kinda proves he was there.

Step Climbers
Pendle Hill continues to grow in popularity. Recently parking restictions have been introduced on local roads to encourage drivers not to block farm access etc. Sadly, not everyone understands the purpose of double-yellow lines.

The Cauldron
We had tea / bovril at The Cauldron.
Looking Back
The Pendle Inn
Pubs are getting ready not to open on Monday April 12th, but punters can sit outside and await table service, that should be fun...

Shadow on Pendle |
Folk should consider the options of not parking on the roadside or clogging up Barley, there are alternative places to start Pendle Hill walks from, but for some....the shortest route is the best...
Roadside Parking
Here's a reminder from Arpil 2020.
Newchurch Daffodils
So, I've remembered how to write up a simple website report. Good news, there'll be another one along in a day or two.
