~Pendle Hill~
30th November 2014
Pendle Summit
A fine weekend day and huge numbers of walkers are attracted to Pendle Hill in East Lancashire.
The View from Home
On Monday 1st December, the lunchtime walk with Molly and our daily view of Pendle Hill.
Class 40 No.345
The day before the featured Pendle walk, Peter (brother) and I travelled from Manchester Victoria to York on a charter train featuring a preserved diesel locomotive (above). It's a "Class 40" and there's not many left.
The Train passing Mirfield
The trip was run by Compass Railtours, using carriages by West Coast Railways. York is a fine destination with lots of shops, a railway museum, Betty's, pubs and even a Minster.
Sunrise 30th November
08:20hrs and the sun comes into view over the top of the local Pennine moors. Anyone for Pendle?
The Pendle Climb
We (K, me n' dog) parked by the roadside and joined the throng. The catch with avoiding the crowds and ascending the other way is that you're likely to meet them on the top, that's those who make it all the way - a couple of stragglers in this view.

Passing Aircraft |
It's unusal, but on this occasion I could not get a summit photo without folk in the way. The 'plane is lower than the fell's height and is in the air, not parked on the neighbouring fields. We went down the steps and completed the walk in 1hr and 25mins. Later, the sun went down at 15:45hrs, as viewed from the back fields.

Molly and William
On Monday 1st December, the lunchtime walk and we meet William on the fields. William is a cross between an Irish Wolfhound and a Weimaraner and they seem to enjoy a frolick in the long grass, when time permits.

There we go, another Sunday, another Pendle walk, another sunset, dogs and trains .....
