Tree Planting Scheme |
Repaired Footpath |
This late Saturday afternoon walk started at just after 3pm from Laneshawbridge in East Lancashire. I'd waited a very long time for the weather to brighten up and this is much better than it was in the morning. On the way to Wycoller, lots of trees have been planted and further on a sginifcant landslip on the footpath has been repaired.
Wycoller Houses
The Pack Horse Bridge |
Wycoller Hall |
Hard to walk past the cafe, but time will be tight, so I had to march on.
The Clapper Bridge
The path ahead splits and I took the left hand track for Parson Lee Farm.
Pennine Bridleway
The way into Yorkshire is waymarked as the Pennine Bridleway, but the one on the right is also the Bronte Way.
Pennine Moorland
A clear path through the moorland leads to ...
Watersheddles Reservoir
This large reservoir is geographically in Lancashire, but was built for Yorkshire's residents by Keighley Waterworks in the 1870's.
Reservoir Views
Quite a low level in this reservoir at the moment.
Oakworth
The first "town" in Yorkshire from this direction is Oakworth, I follow the tarmac for a short distance and then take a path off to the left to start the journey over the moors to Cowling.
Ladder Stile |
Kiln Hill |
Over the stile and up to Kiln Hill for an ascent to Great Wolf Stones.
Great Wolf Stones |
Little Wolf Stones |
Just behind Great Wolf Stones is a trig point and the map entitles the area as Little Wolf Stones - 443m, 1,453ft asl.
The Pennine Way
Heading NE from LWS and I soon join The Pennine Way and head generally downhill for Cowling. Initially I had intended to reach Crosshills, but the prospect of fading light persuaded me to set a sensible finishing line.
Pendle Hill
Through the murk, I can just about make out Pendle Hill, with Colne a little nearer - to the left of the photo.
Hunting Lodge?
Could this be a hunting lodge? Found on Ickornshaw Moor.
Two Sheds
Many small sheds on the moorland, each with a chimney and a water butt.
Wainman's Pinnacle
The plan had been to reach Earl Crag and Wainman's Pinnacle, but this the last of the day's sunshine and there was no point continuing in that direction and finishing in the dark.
Late Views
A footbridge takes walkers over Dean Brow Beck and finally I head in Cowling down Old Lane.
