Coldwell Reservoirs

Pendle Way

I parked between the two Coldwell Reservoirs in East Lancashire. The first part of the walk is part of the "Pendle Way".

Boulsworth Climb

Route up Boulsworth Hill

The rocky outcrop is Abbot Stone. This is a boggy trudge, not too bad just now after a dryish six weeks, but usually quite a test of patience and footplacing skills.

The Summit

Boulsworth Hill is a huge upland expanse, mainly Open Access Land, but generally unpopular with walkers. This will be due to the typically peaty, Pennine landscape. Maybe also due to the isolation of this summit, I must have had at least 10 square miles to myself.

Red Spar Moor

Boundary Stone on Red Spar Moor

I took a SW route off the summit and picked up a fenced boundary (NW direction) running along the line of BS (Boundary Stones) on the map. I found two of the stones, but not all of the ones indicated on the map.

RPH Much Loved

"RPH Much Loved"...

... are the words carved into this remarkable stone seat. It is not on the main paths and I found it by accident. From the back it just looked like an isolated boulder, one of quite a few in the area. I felt obliged to sit for a few minutes and enjoy the view.

The Bigger Picture

Walkers: Just Me

Time taken: 2 hours 15 minutes over a distance of about 5 miles.

Weather: Sunshine all the way to the end of ... maybe the best day of the year so far!
