Barley Picnic Area
Today I was limited to a shortish time window, so I chose my favourite local fell and went in search of adversity! Start time of 09:40hrs.
Lower Ogden Reservoir
Certainly cold today with a bitter easterly wind. I know it will be very cold on top and choose the Ogden Clough route for a long, sheltered approach to the summit.
The Ogden Clough Route
Today, some photos are taken on "Standard" and some on "B&W", see if you can tell the difference!
Crossover
Just here the footpath crosses from right to left.
Frozen Stream
On the way to the flagged path to the summit, I chose to put my anti-slip footwear apparatus on. Always put these things on before you need them and preferably before your hands are cold. During the delay, three other walkers caught me up and one was Ali Watson, good friend from many years ago.

Bleak! |
This is the adversity I'd sought out! As the easterly wind hits the steep slope, it rolls up the hill and all flows directly across the summit, hence a gentle breeze of "say" 10mph, intensifies to more like 30mph - I'm not sure what the true and wind chill temperatures were, but clothing was freezing and Ali should have had a hat on!
The Stile
Water droplets on the lens have blurred bits of this photo, but otherwise it's unmodified - just as it entered the camera.
Mr.Watson
Complete with frozen hair.

The three others went over the stile and away to the shelter and scout cairn, on their way back to Worston. Further on I came across an abandoned pair of boots!
Pendle House
Down the steps, easy with the grips on.

Walkers: Just Me.
Time taken: 2 hours 40 minutes over a distance of about 6 miles.
Route: Barley, Ogden Reservoirs, Ogden Clough, The Flags, Pendle Summit, The Steps, Fields to the Downham Road and then along the tarmac to Barley.
Weather: Cool and grey, wintry stuff on top and mighty cold up there.
Greetings: After meeting the hardy trio, I met quite a few ascenders on their way up the steps. Otherwise the Ogden Clough route is generally a quiet way to the top.
Refreshments: More good fare at The Cabin in Barley.
