Pendle Summit
Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Sabden
This Saturday's walk up Pendle will start from the village of Sabden. The Nick O'Pendle is seen here at the top of the lansdscape, but I'll be starting from the main car park in Sabden as I expect to arrive back at the lower level.
Pendle from Whins Lane
A few parts of this walk are new territory for me and this is one of them, a walk along Whins Lane, before taking footpaths through fields and up towards the "Nick".
Parsley Barn
Farm Stuff
The barn is still in use for stockholding and the gate at the end of the lane is fastened with a chain and loop.
Ribble Valley
On the way up from the "Nick", there is a big view across the Ribble Valley. Longridge Fell to the left and Parlick with Fairsnape Fell further away.
Two-headed Sheep |
Meadow Pipit |
Scout Cairn |
Downham |
I think this walk presents a fitting end to the "meteorological" summer of 2013. I'd settle for more of the same next year!
The Other Stile
From the high vantage point of Pendle's "Big End" I spot the Cumbrian Mountain Express heading for a water stop at Hellifield. Later I follow a wildlife spotter on the route to the summit.
The Top
Barley Hill |
Under Pendle |
The walk route took me off Pendle in the direction of Barley Hill and then a detour took me past the houses of "Under Pendle", not somewhere I've walked before.
To Barley
Abandoned Farmhouse
It seems rather strange that in this era of restoration of old farm buildings, this one has escaped the rise of scaffold and the builders' skips.
The Cabin at Barley
Lunch at The Cabin.
The plan had been to find a way back to Sabden and after some thought, I decided to head up Ogden Clough and take a steep path on to Spence Moor for the route down to Churn Clough Reservoir.
Lower Ogden Reservoir |
Upper Ogden Reservoir |
Ogden Clough
Somewhere around the foot of Boar Clough, I decided to have another go and sacked the idea of going onto Spence Moor (left) and headed again for the summit.
The Encore

Churn Clough Reservoir
The Pointer
Whilst looking for the path to the reservoir, I came across this tree - pointing the way!
