Town End Tearoom

Town End Tearoom

I was going to refer to this being our annual trip to Malham, but for some inexplicable reason, we didn't come here in 2011. The visit to Upper Airedale started with a light lunch in Town End Tearoom, Airton. I've been to Malham 20 times in the last 17 years.

Car Parking for Malham

Karen and The Ratmobile

The car park and roadside were both full. The farm which sometimes sells car parking tickets, wasn't; the field was closed. This spot is just out of Malham on the south side. Doesn't she look grand! Washed twice a week, I generally only bring her out at weekends and put her away for the winter months; she's quite expensive to maintain and I may trade her in for a younger model in another year or two.

Our walk is a popular one, from Malham to Janet's Foss, and then up over the fields to Malham Cove.

Altocumulous

The path to Janet's Foss (looking back), clouds would play a small part in today's proceedings, even though it was predominantly a sunny day.

I still smirk a little when I think of our 6th-form field trip to Malham and the ribbing us lads gave Janet (classmate) about the prospect of seeing her "foss" in the woods near Malham.

After passing Gordale Refreshments, it's sharp left through a gate and up the field.

Watlowes

The Dry Valley

Watlowes - the dry valley, which leads towards the camera and Malham Cove (left). I got a bout of photographer's frustration as a line of innoquous cumulous clouds passed in front of the sun and kept us in shade, whereas the rest of Northern England was in sunshine.

Which Way Now?

The party seemed to be having a navigational issue, all the answers are just above them!

Walkers: Karen & Me.

Time taken: 2hr 20mins over a distance of about 4 miles.

Route: Malham road, river route to Janet's Foss, Gordale Bridge, Malham Cove, Malham.

Weather and conditions: Generally sunny and calm, naughty cloud delaying Cove photos!

Greetings Count: Lots and lots and lots of folk about.

Richard's Refreshment Review: The Town End Tearoom and Shop at Airton is very good. Prices a little above average, but so is the quality and service. Popular with cyclists (unfortunately), and they are nothing if not discerning.
