~Pendle Hill from Sabden~

Sabden
Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Sabden War Memorial
With a start time of 10:00hrs, Peter R, Izzy the Dog and the writer set off from Sabden Car Park. Almost all towns and villages that I vist have a war memorial. Just a few "Thankful Villages" are without such.
Churn Clough
After walking through Sabden village, we head for Churn Clough. This is a new route of approach to Pendle Hill for me and it's not often I can say that! People of the south, note how dry the paths are....
Churn Clough Reservoir
Calf Hill
Looking south-west, the grassy bump is Calf Hill, Sabden is visible beyond a bit of reservoir.
Deerstones
We chose to leave the regular path and take a closer look at the rocky feature known as Deerstones.
Deerstones
The dog is in there somewhere, screw your eyes up and see if you can see her...
Apronfull Hill
Looking over Deerstones in a south-westerly direction towards the West Lancashire coast.
Churn Clough Reservoir and Sabden
Rock Face
Can you see the profile of a face? I think he's got a dog with him...
Ogden Clough
Here our route joins Ogden Clough and heads for the path to the summit of Pendle.
Runners on Pendle
Pendle Summit
The runners made it hard work for walkers, as much of the latter part ofthe route is single file and they were passing us for 20 minutes or so. I think every one said "thank you" as we stood to the side. Summit at noon.

Lunch in Barley
All part of the plan was to get butties at The Cabin for our lunch. Then, plot a route back to Sabden.
Footbridge, Barley
On the way to Ogden Reservoirs is this footbridge and crossing such took us on a path which would lead us over the hill and into the valley which, in turn, leads to Sabden. A short series of photos on the way back.....

To Sabden Fold
Stan's Hut
Close to Stainscomb is this little shed. Apparently, local man and fell-runner, Stan Bradshaw would sometimes reside in here. We're told he died at 92 not that long ago. Runners do the "Stan Bradshaw Round", but research suggests today's runners were on some other mission.
Sabden Ahead
Sabden is again in sight and the walk will soon be over.

Richard's Refreshment Review: The Cabin at Barley car park. One of the best cafes in the area, a great place for light refreshments.
Take me back to the start ....
