A Tale of Two Walks
This report is primarily an opportunity to gloat about the excellent walk I enjoyed in the evening of Tuesday 19th June 2012, but just to show the contrasting fortunes of the Pendle Walker, I can show you a few glimpses of local life on Saturday 16th. It was the day of The Pendle Pub Walk - link at the foot of the page. Hundreds of walkers take a route between nine pubs and raise money for charity. By Tuesday the weather has turned again and the view of Tunstill Mill is taken en route Barley.
Sunshine over Lower Ogden Reservoir
Both walks started at Barley car park. You may be able to work out which photos belong to each day.
Pied Wagtail in the Sunshine
Goldfinch on Saturday
I was fortunate to get quite close to the Wagtail, but the Goldfinch is on the longest zoom.
Lower Ogden Reservoir
The view from the grassy path up to the top of Fell Wood.
Through The Wood
With time to spare on Tuesday evening, I took this walk through Fell Wood.
Roe Deer
And out of the wood to be greeted by a pleasant surpirse! The weather on Tuesday was perfect; a huge difference to that on Saturday, when by the time I reached Boar Clough, the rain was persistent.
Lane Bottom, Briercliffe
Pendle's ever-changing shadow reaches nearly as far as Lane Bottom, Briercliffe at this time on almost the longest day of the year. Wednesday is this year's "longest day", I wasn't sure that the weather would hold for the long clear views.
Saturday's Summit Photo
Persistent heavy rain and very limited visibility.

The Setting Sun
Just to the west of the Lakeland Fells, as seen from Pendle Hill, at 21:36hrs.

Finally....
That's as north and west as I will see the sun set this year; will anyone venture up on the "longest day" and get a norther and wester sunset??
Sheltering Sheep
Poor sheep! They really needed to be on the other side of the wall, but were barred. I wonder if the change places, like penguins do?
The end of walk data here refers only to the walk of 19th June.
Walkers: Just Me.
Time taken: 3hrs 11 mins over a distance of about 5.5 miles.
Route: Barley, Lower Ogden Res., Fell Wood, Upper Ogden Res., Boar Clough, Pendle Summit, The Steps and across the fields back to the car park.
Weather and conditions: Sunny, warm and calm.
Greetings Count: From leaving the car to getting back - Absolute Zero - I had the place to myself. Perhaps folk were watching Wayne and the Boys in Donetsk?
Richard's Refreshment Review: Not today.
Take me back to the start ....
