~Pendle Hill~
1st February 2012
Sunset over Snow
Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Pendle Hill
I like this aspect from Pasture Lane, Roughlee. You don't see all of Pendle Hill, you're left wanting a bit more; but the view has depth and shows many of the fields, trees and bumps that make up the Eastern approach to Lancashire's Favourite Fell!
Lower Ogden Reservoir
I parked in a busy Barley car park and set off at 15:07hrs. This fine day was forecast on the "weather for the week ahead" on Sunday and I pencilled it in for my starter in the February folder.
Ogden Clough
After passing both Ogden Reservoirs, it was straight on into Ogden Clough. Look Again! I'm not on my own!
Boar Clough
As you can see, there's plenty of snow about and path is partly frozen. Boar Clough was chosen as the route to the top, so as to get me there in good time for a look at the setting sun.
Izzy The Dog
Did you spot the dog in the Ogden Clough photo? Izzy has taken a liking to Pendle Hill and this is her third ascent since I took up my part-time role as a "dog walker". Some folk get paid for this, you know.
Looking West
This is my first visit at the right time for a look at a decent sunset since 12th November 2011. That's the weather, not walker apathy.
Black Moss Reservoirs
I wonder what I would call this view eastwards from Pendle Hill, if the reservoirs were not there?
Pendle Runner
Cor Blimey! This chap is nearly always up here whenever I am and he never stops running, I think he goes round again on some occasions.
Pendle Summit
Pendle Trig and Sunset
It's rather cold up here with a nippy easterly breeze from, of all places, Siberia, apparently.
Looking North
The Stile
The Steps
These steps are very icy now and I put my "WinterTrax" on. These things are low cost and available from all good "outdoor" retailers, well worth it. Other makes are also available. With a bit of grip, you can walk confidently on the ice. Over the fields and back to Barley, with just enough time and light to inspect the footbridge repairs.

They've done a good job.
