~Pendle Hill~

Ogden Clough
Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Lower Ogden Reservoir
Start time is 18:15 and the car is left in Barley. Forecast to be the best evening of the week, Monday is chosen for a continuation of the sequence of presently thirteen weeks during which I've ascended Pendle Hill.
Lower Ogden Reservoir and Pendle Hill
Did you see the BBC documentary "The Pendle Witch Child", presented by Simon Armitage?. Well the building mentioned in the piece, Malkin Tower, is on the other side of Barley Hill, directly following the wall, left of centre and reflected in the water. Here, the central character to the programme and the trial of the witches, Jennet Device (pronounced Deviss), would visit her grandmother and the hall is also strongly featured in the story.
Fell Wood
With time on my side, I make my up above Lower Ogden Reservoir and into Fell Wood. Spooooky....
Between the Reservoirs |
Four Ladies |
Out of Fell Wood and then along the little bit of original Ogden Clough towards the Upper Dam. Four ladies who I passed at the start have now made it to the top of the dam.
Upper Ogden Reservoir
Ogden Clough
I consider the higher reaches of Ogden Clough to be the "Quiet Zone", it's unusual for me to see anyone, but on this occasion a young family passed me, heading for Barley.
Paths Meet
Here in the upper reaches of Ogden Clough, the path from Barley (left) meets one from the Clitheroe side and both head up the clough ready for the crossover on to the flags and the march to the summit.
Pendle Sunset
This one was taken on my way up the flags, the little pointy bit is Parlick.

Busy Pendle
Malkin Tower
This is the building that Simon Armitage has suggested was Malkin Tower, there is another building by this name nearer Barnoldswick. It appears to be on private land and so out-of-bounds. The red dots show my usual route back to Barley when I say I've gone across the fields and down the lanes.

Sunset
I left the summit area and descended the steps. Then along the lane to the road and across the field to Lower Black Moss, this is a new way back to Barley for me, or certainly at this time of day. 14 weeks on the bounce, 29 so far this year.
