Barley Picnic Area

Barley Picnic Area

Starting from Barley car park, this walk follows a few days of heavy rain and takes advantage of a break in the grey monotony of recent skies. The picnic area is waterlogged, a new duck pond is in evidence.

"They" are doing some pipework on the far side of the dam, which accounts for the very cloudy water in the beck lower down.

Heron Fishing

Heron

The heron was fishing and appeared to be getting plenty to eat.

Up the path above Boar Clough and onto the summit area, nobody about and a really fine afternoon, despite the forecasters' contrary predictions.

Broken Bottle

Broken Glass

Two large cairns mark the approach from the south. It puzzles me as to who and why this and many other upland areas are abused. Broken glass is litter, but a type of litter that doens't blow away, can't be picked up and won't biodegrade. It cuts the feet of dogs and surely doesn't do much for sheep either.

Pendle Summit

Pendle Summit

Does anyone know when the triangulation station was installed? Presumably the circular stone pattern was laid at the same time. Two other walkers are on the way and almost appear to be stood on top of the pillar.

Hedge work to Black Moss

To Black Moss

Recently a new hedge has been planted; it could be a few years, but this is good news for wildlife. My route took me across Barley Road and then past Windy Harbour Farm and down the field to Black Moss and then Barley.
