Booth's Car Park
This is Booth's Supermarket car park in Barrowford. Maybe you think it's quiet in Booth's today? Indeed it is, as it's not been built yet.
Autumn View
There are many ways to walk between Barrowford and Barley. Today, we walk from the car to Water Meetings and then up the field to Brown Hill. We hoped to avoid the muddy challenges of other routes, but failed.
Water Meeetings
The waters meet just out of shot. We were last here six months ago and it was a fine sunny day with picnic parties all around.
~~~~~
Brown Hill
This route to Barley follows the straight line of the field edge (ahead) and then up and around the back of Brown Hill (highpoint, left).
Looking Back
to Higherford and Boulsworth Hill - to the right, in the distance.
Stansfield (Blacko) Tower
No public access to the tower. If I owned Blacko Tower, I would open up access to the area and develop a visitor centre with a gift shop and cafe. A missed opportunity!
Aiken Wood
The conifers are home to a new sculpture trail. Pendle Hill lurks behind the dark greens.
Narrowgates
Barley Car Park
We took lunch in The Cabin at Barley Car Park. Whilst in there, it rained, which is not unusual in these parts. We took a mainly tarmac route back to Barrowford, a relief from the squelchy bits.
Roughlee Weir
Alice and Karen
One of the above was charged and convicted of being a witch, 400 years ago! The other remains on the loose!!
Pendle Water
We rejoined the fields walk back to Water Meetings and into Barrowford. This is a really fine area for walking, highly recommended for those of all abilities; plenty of options.
Dear Visitors! November could be a quiet month on this website.
