Pendle Summit
Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Fell Wood and Burnley
Walking from the roadside, I started this walk at 19:45hrs. I'd waited for one very dark cloud to pass and then saw the skies clear, so I left home optimistic that it would be a good one. I even considered shorts and no coat, but experience told me to err on the side of caution.
Hameldon Hill
As I climbed the steps, the sky above me darkened and a chilly wind set in. Across the other side of Burnley is Hameldon Hill.
Runner on Pendle
Darkness descended! Not really this dark, the camera has helped to make it look quite foreboding.
Hailstones
I took cover behind the wall, for 20 minutes or so, as a hail shower passed over. Observers from the Pendle towns of Nelson and Colne may have looked across and thought "only fools would be up there tonight". Indeed. As it cleared...

The Summit of Pendle Hill
The passing shower has cleared off and so has everyone else, runners ran away and the two cyclists also scarpered.
Pendle Sunset
Well worth the effort in the end!
Looking West
Cloud of the Day
Another shower deposits its load on the moors somewhere between Blackburn and Bolton.
Last Look
A big benefit of cooler weather at this time of the year is the clear views.
Walkers: Just Me.
Time taken: 1hrs 25mins over a distance of about 2.5miles, including the shelter time behind the wall.
Route: Roadside, Steps, Summit, Track.
Weather and conditions: Exciting! and very cold on top.
Greetings Count: I passed a few walkers on my way up and then saw some runners and two cyclists. All vanished in the hailstorm and the whole of the summit of Pendle Hill was left to me!
Richard's Refreshment Review: Not today.
Take me back to the start ....
