Pendle Summit
Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Roadside Parking
I generally aim to ascend PH once a week at this time of year. This could be the best weather of the week and there was something else going on, cars are assmebling on the roadside and at 20:00hrs, I'm ready for this special occasion.
Black Moss Reservoirs
The line of shdaow can be seen in front of the lower reservoir, I'm taking the wider track route up to the top.
Foulridge Lower Reservoir
How fortunate that the skies are clearing for the lighting of the Diamond Jubilee Beacons.
ITV Filming
When I reached the summit, about an hour and a half before the beacon was due for lighting, an ITV camera-lady was filming the efforts of the Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team, who were carrying supplies up for the event.
Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team
I felt safer than usual up here this evening. These events just don't happen unless there is someone prepared to go the extra mile, well done to these lads and to one of the local scout teams who also put time and effort in.
That's Cheating!
The Pendle Countryside Rangers get a lift up th'ill. That's his belt, I think.

Curlew / Dotterel / Golden Plover?
I'm no bird expert. Opinions vary on this one. There was certainly a Curlew screaming overhead at the same time as this one was keeping still. So, with time on my side, I went for a walk out to the Clitheroe side. Here's a few pre-beacon sunset photos....

Pendle Beacon
Lit at 10:15hrs ish. We could see other beacons and fireworks, maybe there were less street lights when the Armada was defeated or whatever was going on when the first beacons were lit.
Beacon Fun
I'd rather hoped for burgers and stuff, but sadly these were not on offer.
Jubilation! No other country on earth has got the history or the ability to put on these mighty shows!
The R&P MRT - a fine organisation with a large area to cover, they wear red jackets.
ITV film - this may not remain active for too long - I'm the one in the Hi-Vis yellow jacket!
Walkers: Just Me.
Time taken: 3hrs over a distance of about 5 miles.
Route: Roadside, up the track, summit, down the flags to Ogden Clough, up the wall to the "other side", back to the usual stile and return to the summit for the beacon lighting. Down the steps and back to the car.
Weather and conditions: Clear and calm.
Greetings Count: Lots of fine folk enjoying the occasion, maybe 100 or so on the top.
Richard's Refreshment Review: Not today.
Take me back to the start ....
